(The trip is not limited to the itinerary outlined here. You can also view the description of our previous journey under “Past Trips,” where additional activities were included.)
Kenya - 3 nights in Nairobi
June 12: Departure from Keflavík.
June 13–16: The journey begins in Nairobi, with highlights such as a visit to the Karen Blixen Museum, the author’s former home and the setting of her book Out of Africa. We’ll also visit the Maasai Market and explore the city. The group will have the opportunity to visit the Little Bees School in one of Nairobi’s slums, supported by Friends of Kenya and Tanzania for over 20 years. Another option is to visit Anna Þóra at Haven Rescue Home, where she has run a shelter for young mothers aged 12–18, offering education, psychological support, and new opportunities for the future.
Mwanza, Tanzania – 3 nights at Lake Victoria
June 16–19: Next, we travel to Mwanza, known as Rock City for its dramatic boulder-covered hills. Here, participants will learn about the work of the Hakizetu Association, which operates a tailoring school where young women train and where you can have colorful African garments custom-made. We will also meet with Nourish Africa, an organization focusing on environmental education. Part of the trip fee helps fund their tree-planting and education projects. An optional boat trip to Saanane Island, Tanzania’s smallest national park, is also on offer, with its rich and varied wildlife.
Serengeti Safari – 2 nights in tented camps
June 19–21: On the morning of June 19, safari jeeps will collect the group. After a briefing with our guides, we set off for Serengeti National Park to witness its magnificent wildlife in their natural habitat. Accommodation will be in luxury tented camps, where guests fall asleep to the sounds of the wild. The safari follows The Great Migration, where millions of grazing animals head north, trailed by predators of every kind.
Ngorongoro Crater – 1 night in a luxury lodge
June 21–22: After two nights in the Serengeti, we leave the park, stopping at a Maasai village before spending a night in a luxury lodge. The following day we descend into the breathtaking Ngorongoro Crater, home to nearly all of Africa’s major species, including The Big Five: elephant, leopard, lion, buffalo and rhinoceros. Afterwards we continue to Kilimanjaro Airport for a short flight to Zanzibar.
Zanzibar – 5 nights: Stone Town and the Beach
June 22–27: We begin with two nights in Stone Town, where narrow streets, spice markets, and a fascinating blend of Arab, European, and African cultures await. Then we head to a beach resort for three nights of pure relaxation on white sandy shores. Optional activities include snorkeling with dolphins, visiting spice plantations, or learning the art of surfing.
