Itinerary

01Tanzania – 4 nights in Mwanza on Lake Victoria
Departure from Keflavík.
Mwanza is known as Rock City for its dramatic boulder-covered hills. Here, participants will learn about the work of the Hakizetu Association, which operates a tailoring school where young women train and where you can have colorful African garments custom-made. We will also meet with Nourish Africa, an organization focusing on environmental education. Part of the trip fee helps fund their tree-planting and education projects. An optional boat trip to Saanane Island, Tanzania’s smallest national park, is also on offer – an eight-minute ride from the hotel, with its rich and varied wildlife. There will also be an opportunity to visit people in the countryside and get to know their lives and circumstances.

02Serengeti Safari – 2 nights in tented camps
On the morning of 3 February, safari jeeps will collect the group. After a briefing with our guides, we set off for the southern Serengeti and Ngorongoro national parks to witness their magnificent wildlife in its natural habitat. Accommodation will be in luxury tented camps, where guests fall asleep to the sounds of the wild. At this time of year, wildebeest and zebra are calving in the southern parks, surrounded by lions, leopards and cheetahs – and there is plenty of other wildlife to see: elephants, buffalo, hippos and giraffes, to name a few.

03Ngorongoro Crater – 1 night in a luxury lodge
After two nights in the Serengeti, we leave the park, stopping at a Maasai village before spending a night in a luxury lodge. The following day we descend into the breathtaking Ngorongoro Crater, home to nearly all of Africa’s major species, including The Big Five: elephant, leopard, lion, buffalo and rhinoceros. Afterwards we drive on to Arusha, at the foot of Kilimanjaro, where we spend the night.

04Zanzibar – 5 nights: the Beach and Stone Town
Flight from Arusha to Zanzibar.
On landing we head straight to a beach resort for three nights of pure relaxation on white sandy shores – or join the optional activities on offer: snorkeling with dolphins, visiting spice plantations, or learning the art of surfing.
We spend two nights in Stone Town, where narrow streets, spice markets, and a fascinating blend of Arab, European, and African cultures await.
Return flight home.
